A Companion Novella to The Undoing of My Marriage
Not a Fairytale Ending
The Rewriting of My Story
If you’ve read The Undoing of My Marriage and you’re here with the password to unlock my ebook, thank you – I’m glad you’re at least a bit curious about what came next for me!
Not a Fairytale Ending – The Rewriting of My Story is not only about literally rewriting my messy first attempt at The Undoing of My Marriage, but also my journey of reshaping my identity after divorce, gaining clarity, and finally discovering what it meant to 'find myself'.
Once my publishing journey got underway, I sat down to write a short blurb for my website about why I wrote my book. What began as a couple of paragraphs quickly turned into a page, which eventually grew into a 19,600-word autofiction novella about the process of writing The Undoing of My Marriage while still in a 'casual' relationship I was far too invested in. Sometimes, I surprise myself!
Although he'd dominated my thoughts for a few years, my feelings were too raw then to write about him beyond a handful of poems. As it turned out, writing the novella not only gave me the closure he never could, but also allowed me to step back and see more clearly how much of it hinged on hope, how much of it was real, and how much I had unconsciously constructed my post-divorce identity around him.
As per the title, it wasn't my 'fairytale ending' (rather a real-life lesson in attachment dynamics), but it was a story I needed to write, and one I’m grateful to now share with you as a companion to The Undoing of My Marriage.
